Tech Innovations #4

Advanced Computer Graphics

Kuri is a friendly, likable home robot that is able to assist you in everyday tasks. Kuri comes with a plethora of features, including taking videos or pictures of its surroundings while you're away, microphones that you can speak through and are able detect specific voices, speakers to play songs or podcasts, a "heart light" that conveys Kuri's current mood, mapping sensors, and touch sensors. Using this new and innovative lifelike technology, Kuri becomes one of the first accessible, technologically advanced "human-like" robots to hit the market.

Kuri's main purpose would be: watching over your home while you're away for a long period of time, or to entertain children if you think a pet would be too much of an investment.

About Kuri

How Does it Function?

Book a Walk

Going into more detail about the technological aspects of Kuri, its more impressive features are its touch sensors located on its arms and head. For instance, if you pat or scratch its head, Kuri's heart light will illuminate a certain color and it will emote, indicating that it is happy. It also responds to complicated commands, and emotes to them as well (saying "I love you" makes it happy).

Kuri also has the amazing ability to recognize certain faces using its HD camera, and has the intelligence to be able to learn the layout of your house and even recognize something out of the ordinary (a burglar enters the house or a pet does something its not supposed to do). It's advanced mapping technology allows it to go around obstacles.

It's Significance?

In actuality, this robot isn't able to do anything too complicated and there's alternate technology available to do the majority of what Kuri does. However, I believe it's main significance is it's human-like nature and ability to capture the hearts of people despite it being a robot. We all have seen shows where the main character has a lifelike robot companion, or that one robot that cleans up and does the chores around the house. Kuri is the first step to achieving that reality. A robot that does what its supposed to do, and does it well, while at the same time integrating itself in your family.
